2009-10 Season - Augustana men's swimmers grab 5th place finish in 200 medley relay at second day of CCIW Championship
WHEATON, Illinois – Junior Eric Zike (Ridgeview HS, Colfax, Ill.), senior Jason Perine (Plainfield South HS, Plainfield, Ill.), senior Danny Betz (DeKalb HS, DeKalb, Ill.), and sophomore Drew Clinton (Riverside-Brookfield HS, Brookfield, Ill.) grabbed a fifth place finish in the 200 medley relay to lead the Vikings at the second day of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championship on Friday, February 20 at Wheaton College. They finished the race with a time of 1:43.18.
Carthage continues to lead the team race with 674 points. Wheaton is firmly in second with 522 while Illinois Wesleyan sits in third at 330. Rose-Hulman is fourth with 267 points and Millikin is fifth with 183. Augustana has 117 points and is in sixth place, six points ahead of seventh place North Central (111).
Zike also had the best individual finish for Augustana, earning 11th place in the 100 backstroke with a clocking of :57.17. Zike was 16th in 100 butterfly (:57.64), finishing right behind Betz, who took 15th with a time of :55.73.
Freshman Denny Wind (Downers Grove North HS, Downers Grove, Ill.), junior Jake Glimco (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.), senior Kevin Hickey (Lincoln Way East HS, Mokena, Ill.), and sophomore Michael Reeves (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) were sixth in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 8:25.75. Sophomore Derek Sanderson (Lincoln Way East HS, Tinley Park, Ill.), sophomore Brian Tuinenga (Glenbard South HS, Glen Ellyn, Ill.), freshman Michael Whittle (Galesburg HS, Galesburg, Ill.), and sophomore Kennen Hootman (Addison Trail HS, Addison, Ill.) finished 13th in the same event with a time of 9:13.42. Earlier, sophomore Joseph Waldorf (Bloomington HS, Bloomington, Ill.), whittle, senior Ian Gustafson (Rockford Jefferson HS, Cherry Valley, Ill.), and freshman Robert Flynn (Bartlett HS, Bartlett, Ill.) took 12th in the 200 medley relay with a clocking of 1:51.40.
