2009-10 Season - Augustana women's swim team finishes fourth in 800 freestyle relay to highlight second day at CCIW Championship
WHEATON, Illinois – The Augustana women’s swimming team picked up a fourth place finish in the 800 freestyle relay on the second day of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championship on Friday, February 20 at Wheaton College. Senior Megan Lonergan (Bettendorf HS, Bettendorf, Iowa), junior Sara Hlavin (St. Viator HS, Elk Grove Village, Ill.), sophomore Emily Cox (Pioneer HS, Ann Arbor, Mich.), and freshman Jessica Fair (Ashton-Franklin Center HS, Franklin Grove, Ill.) combined for a time of 8:26.15. Hlavin also had the top individual finish for the Vikings, taking seventh place in the 400 individual medley with a clocking of 5:05.24.
Wheaton continues to lead the team race with 623 points with Carthage sitting a close second at 580. Illinois Wesleyan is third with 328 points and Rose-Hulman is fourth with 208. The Vikings are fifth with 168 points, narrowly ahead of Millikin, who has 164. North Central rounds out the field in seventh place with 123 points.
Freshman Colleen Mans (Robbinsdale Cooper HS, New Hope, Minn.) finished 11th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:07.19. Augustana also had a strong showing in the 200 freestyle with three swimmers scoring points. Fair was 13th (2:04.69), Cox placed 14th (2:06.96) and freshman Alissa Giedd (Freeport HS, Cedarville, Ill.) finished 15th (2:07.18). Giedd swam the first leg of the 11th place 800 freestyle relay squad. She combined with Mans, junior Emma Moran (Bettendorf HS, Bettendorf, Iowa), and sophomore Courtney Carlisle (Prospect HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) to hit the finish with a time of 9:10.31.
