2009-10 Season - Megan Lonergan's fourth place in 500 leads way in first day of CCIW swimming championship
WHEATON, Illinois – Senior Megan Lonergan (Bettendorf HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) turned in the top performance for the Augustana Vikings at the first day of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championship on Thursday, February 19 at Wheaton College. Lonergan swam 5:18.77 in the 500 freestyle and placed fourth after recording a 5:17.94 in the preliminary round.
After the first day of competition Wheaton leads the team race with 256 points while Carthage is a close second with 253. Illinois Wesleyan sits in third with 150 and Augustana is in fourth with 85 points. Rose Hulman (82), Millikin (67) and North Central (56) rounded out the field.
Junior Sara Hlavin (St. Viator HS, Elk Grove Village, Ill.) took 11th in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:20.48. Freshman Jessica Fair (Ashton-Franklin HS, Franklin Grove, Ill.) took 13th in the 50 freestyle in :26.11 and freshman Alissa Giedd (Freeport HS, Cedarville, Ill.) was 16th in the same event with a time of :26.63. Sophomore Emily Cox (Pioneer HS, Ann Arbor, Michigan) finished 14th in the 500 freestyle in 5:34.69.
The 200 freestyle relay of Fair, Cox, Giedd and Hlavin placed fifth in 1:45.08. The 400 medley relay team of Hlavin, Fair, Lonergan and Giedd took seventh in 4:27.60.
