2009 Season - CCIW baseball coaches tab Augustana for second in 2009 league race

Head coach Greg Wallace’s Augustana Vikings have been picked for second in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin’s 2009 pre-season baseball poll. The league’s coaches tabbed Carthage as the favorite with 43 total points and three first place votes. Augustana and defending champion Illinois Wesleyan were tied for second with 40 total points. The Vikings had one first place vote and the Titans were picked to win the league by two conference coaches. Wheaton was fourth with 35 points and had two first place votes.

 

North Central (23), North Park (23), Elmhurst (10) and Millikin (10) rounded out the field.

 

Last year Augustana finished the 2008 campaign with a 34-13 overall record and a 14-7 mark in the CCIW, good for third place. The Vikings also finished third in the CCIW tournament and third in the NCAA Midwest Regional.

 

The Vikings open their 2009 season on Tuesday, February 24 with a game against Hanover in Orlando, Florida.
