Summer camps

  • All camps are held at the PepsiCo Recreation Center on Augustana's campus (virtual tour)

Medical release

Junior high camp

When: June 7-9, 9-11 a.m.
Who: Grades 6-8
Cost: $85
What: The junior high camp is designed to teach and improve the skills of volleyball. From the basic fundamentals to team skill drills, the camp will be fun and challenging for the campers.

Specialty position camps

Advanced middle blocker

When: June 7, 12:30-3:30 p.m.
Who: Grades 9-12
Cost: $ 45
What: The advanced MB camp is designed to teach players dominance with the proper arm swing, hand contact, and footwork to the ball. Campers will learn how to transition off next, score against double block and improve timing on quick sets. There will be further emphasis on blocking, defense and back row attacks.

Advanced outside hitter

When: June 8, 12:30-3:30 p.m.
Who: Grades 9-12
Cost: $ 45
What: The advanced OH camp is designed for left side hitters to learn the proper techniques for approach, timing, and shot selection. There will be further emphasis on
defensive transition, passing of serve receive, and as well as down ball passing.

Setting

When: June 9, 1-3:30 p.m.
Who: Grades 9-12
Cost: $35
What: The setting camp is designed to focus on the basic fundamentals of setting such as: footwork, training the hands, back sets, and net play. There will be further emphasis on defense and serving.

Defensive specialist / Libero

When: June 10, 9-11:30 a.m.
Who: Grades 9-12
Cost: $ 35
What: The libero camp is designed to focus on the technical aspects of passing, serve receive and defensive strategies for becoming a strong defender. There will be further emphasis on reading the attackers arm, rolls, and overhead defensive moves.

Camp director

Janelle Hester is entering her third season at Augustana College. In her first season at Augustana, the volleyball team compiled over 20 wins and finished 2nd place in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). Hester led the Vikings to the school's 3rd winningest season record in Viking volleyball history. Coach Hester feels the future of the Viking volleyball program is promising as the Vikings work toward their goal of being a top program in CCIW Conference.

Hester, a native of the Quad Cities, graduated from Davenport Central. She went on to play collegiate ball at the University of Tennessee from 1999-2003. At Tennessee, she earned her degree in Early Childhood Development and was a two-time Second All-SEC selection. Coach Hester had the opportunity to train with the 2002 USA Volleyball National A2 training Team amongst the top volleyball players in the country. Coach Hester started her coaching career at St. Ambrose University as a graduate assistant and has also worked with area club teams and is currently the Director of Quad City Elite VBC.

Camp staff

Coach Hester and camp staff will instruct at each session. Each coach will be working with campers to learn skills ranging from basic to advanced.

Registration information

Registration deadline for all camps is June 1, 2010. The participant must meet the deadline and include the non-refundable payment as indicated on the registration form. All camps require payment in full at the time of registration except for the junior high camp which only requires the deposit listed. The remaining fee is due on the first day of camp. To reserve your spot at camp, send in the completed registration form, consent form, and a check made payable to Augustana Volleyball Camp. No refund will be issued once a camp session has begun.
