2011 VOLLEYBALL REVIEW

With just one senior and two juniors on the entire roster, the 2011 Augustana volleyball team was not immune to the predictable growing pains that go with youth. In her second season at the helm of the Vikings, Jamie Walters was playing a lineup that often had three, and sometimes four, freshmen on the floor at the same time. The experience gained during the 9-23 campaign should prove invaluable in the years ahead.

Skeens named MVP for 2011 volleyball

Senior middle hitter Brianna Skeens wrapped up a fine career at Augustana by being named the Vikings’ Most Valuable Player for the recently concluded 2011 season. Skeens, one of three captains for second year head coach Jamie Walters’ team, was one of the top offensive weapons during her final year.

Vikings ousted in CCIW volleyball tournament

Millikin ended Augustana's 2011 volleyball season with a 3-0 victory in the first round of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Tournament on Tuesday, November 1 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois. The Big Blue won by scores of 25-12; 25-14; 25-16 and advanced to the semi-finals on Friday, November 4 in Kenosha, Wisconsin with a 26-10 overall record. Augustana ends its season with a 9-23 mark.

Vikings split on Senior Day

Augustana dropped an afternoon match to Dubuque in three sets Saturday, but bounced back to take a five-set thriller over Webster in the evening. The contests were part of Augustana's "Trick or Treat Matches" and the team also honored its lone senior, Brianna Skeens, on the final home date of the season. The Vikings finish the regular season with a 9-22 record.

Vikings drop match to Queen Bees

Augustana fell in three sets to NAIA power St. Ambrose by a score of 3-0 on Friday, October 28 at Lee Lohman Arena in Davenport, Iowa. The Queen Bees moved to 24-11 on the year with the 25-16; 25-6; 25-16 victory while the Vikings fell to 8-21 overall.
