The Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellowship
Each year, up to twenty-four participants are selected from around the country for this eleven-month program. They assemble in Washington, D.C. in September for a comprehensive two-day orientation and training, where they explore the reality of hunger and poverty in the U.S. and the various approaches to social and systemic change.
Fellows are placed for five months with urban and rural community-based organizations involved in fighting hunger at the local level, such as grassroots organizing groups, food banks, local advocacy groups, economic development agencies, and faith-based organizations. Each host organization identifies specific goals and outcomes for the Fellows and provides the supervision and resources necessary to accomplish them.
In mid-February, the Fellows regroup in Washington, D.C. to process and evaluate their field experiences and participate in extensive policy training to learn about national anti-hunger and anti-poverty policy work.
BENEFITS: $14,500 annual living allowance, health insurance, travel expenses, housing during field placement, $3,500 end-of-service award, $3,500 housing stipend in D.C., relocation stipend, connection to an extensive community of Hunger Fellows and network of alumni, partners, and experts, experience with community and policy leaders, training/mentoring/leadership development, experience in project management. DEADLINE: JANUARY 22, 2009. www.hungercenter.org
Tara Bordenaro - CVR Winter Intern

The Center for Vocational Reflection welcomes Tara Bordenaro to the team! Tara is a senior here at Augustana and will be graduating in the spring with majors in Spanish and Business and a minor in Psychology. She is interning at the CVR and the Office of Student Activities this winter to learn more about college affairs. In fact, Tara loves college so much that she has decided to make a career out of it! After doing some reflecting, Tara recognized her vocational calling to help others can be expressed well while working with college students in a variety of settings and she looks forward to further exploring this path. Tara enjoys reading, traveling, meeting new people, and spending time with friends and family.
