2008-2009 Season - Defending CCIW champs beat Vikings in wrestling

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana dropped its initial dual meet of the 2008-09 wrestling season to North Central by a score of 37-3 in the Carver Center on Wednesday, December 3. North Central, the defending College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin champion, won the final nine weight classes in moving its record to 5-2. Augustana, which got a victory from junior Kyle Brodwater (St. Joseph Hamm HS, Medford, New Jersey) at 125 pounds, had competed in the Knox and Concordia Open meets but this was the first scored meet of the year for the Vikings.

Brodwater moved his record to 8-3 with a hard fought 3-1 victory over Joe Norton of North Central, who came into the match with an impressive 10-2 mark. The Vikings had a chance for a win at 149 pounds but junior Zach Holland (West Des Moines Dowling HS, Pleasant Hill, Iowa) fell to Nathan DeVaux by a score of 6-5.

Augustana’s next competition will be Saturday, December 6 at the Wisconsin-LaCrosse Dual Tournament in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
