2008-2009 Season - Brian Kerr places sixth to lead Vikings at Concordia Open
MEQUON, Wisconsin – Senior Brian Kerr (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) placed sixth in the 184 pound weight class at the Concordia Open in Mequon, Wisconsin on Saturday, November 22. It was just the second weekend of completion for the Vikings for the 2008-09 season and no team scores were kept in the meet. Kerr’s sixth was the highest finish for head coach Eric Juergens’ team.
Kerr, who is now 5-3 on the season, opened the tournament with a 20-9 win over Bryant Holt of Triton and then beat David Kneisel of Chicago 11-4 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals he dropped a hard fought 4-2 decision to number one seeded Gabe Youel of North Central. In the wrestleback round he fell to Dave Casper of Wisconsin-Whitewater 7-6 in overtime and then lost 10-6 to Corey Moore of Muskingum for fifth place.
Junior Kyle Brodwater (St. Joseph Hamm HS, Medford, New Jersey) won two matches at 125 pounds and he has now taken over the team lead in victories for the season with a 7-3 record.
Junior Billy Gallo (St. Joseph-Ogden HS, St. Joseph, Ill.) went 3-2 and fell in the quarterfinals of the wrestleback at 165 pounds.
