2008-2009 Season - Vikings men's golf squad finishes tied for sixth at Benedictine Invite
WOOD DALE, Ill. – The Augustana men’s golf team finished in a tie for sixth place at the Benedictine Invitational at the Maple Meadows Golf Course in Wood Dale, Illinois on October 4-5. The Vikings finished with a two day total of 612 after shooting a 308 on the first day and firing a score of 304 on the second day of competition. Benedictine won the event with a score of 582, followed by Luther (595), North Central (604), Aurora (607), and Edgewood (611) rounding out the top five. Augustana tied Milwaukee School of Engineering for sixth place and defeated North Central B team (613), Elmhurst (618), Webster (618), Marian (627), Wisconsin Lutheran (631), Lakeland (635), Rockford (657), Elmhurst B team (663), and Concordia B team (684). The B squad for the Vikings finished with a score of 689, shooting rounds of 345 and 344.
Sophomore Cole Wells (Tri-Valley HS, Downs, Ill.) finished first for Augustana, shooting a 149 (77 72) to tie for 11th place. Freshman Jordan Henry (Erie HS, Erie, Ill.) finished tied for 29th place and was second for the Vikings with a score of 153 (75 78). Sophomore Kyle Weigand (Leyden HS, Franklin Park, Ill.) tied for 36th place with a two day total of 154 (76 78) and was Augustana’s third scorer. Junior Zach Kinscherf (Quincy Notre Dame HS, Quincy, Ill.) rounded out the scoring for the Vikings with a tie for 44th place. He finished at 156 with scores of 80 and 76.
The Vikings will be back on the course on October 7 at the Red Poling Collegiate Classic in Dearborn, Michigan.
