Despite Lee's record day, Vikings fall

Things were looking up for the Augustana Vikings when they took a 20-17 lead with just 30 seconds left in the first half of Saturday's game against North Central. However, the Cardinals came right back, going 60 yards in just two plays, capped by a back-breaking 46-yard Aaron Fanthorpe to Steve Hlavac touchdown pass with six seconds left in the half to regain the lead, 24-20. North Central went on to ride the huge momentum swing to a 45-26 win.

Trio named to academic all-district football team

Three Augustana College football players were named to the ESPN - The Magazine academic all-district team, it was announced today. Senior offensive tackle Blaine Westemeyer was a first team selection while senior linebacker Eric Meyer and junior running back Robert Wood were both named to the second team. The voting was done by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and Westemeyer, Meyer and Wood were selected in District Five, which takes in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Vikings take on CCIW co-leader

After taking care of business last Saturday at North Park by a score of 42-14, the Augustana Vikings face a huge step up in competition this week when CCIW co-leader North Central comes to Ericson Field. The Cardinals, 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the CCIW, will head to Rock Island in a bad mood after suffering a 28-22 overtime loss at Illinois Wesleyan Saturday.

A three-touchdown performance by Augustana freshman running back Nate Pena keyed a 42-14 road win over North Park Saturday. Augustana has now won 47 of 49 meetings between the teams all-time, including the last 38 in a row.

Blaine Westemeyer has earned so many honors, both academically and athletically, during his career at Augustana that is doesn't seem possible that there can be any accomplishment that he hasn't already won. Today, one of those awards came through as the talented offensive tackle has been awarded an $18,000.00 postgraduate scholarship by the National Football Foundation & College Football Hall of Fame.
