2009 Men's Cross Country Review

The 2009 cross country season was a special one under veteran head coach, Paul Olsen and assistant coach, Doug Sand as the Vikings were able to place an individual top 10 finisher in eight of their 10 meets this season. The Vikings remained ranked in the top 11 according to the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association for seven of the nine weekly rankings during the course of the season and were fierce competitors in each meet.

Chris Zook named MVP in men's cross country

Augustana senior Chris Zook finished his outstanding cross country career by winning the Most Valuable Runner award for the 2009 men’s cross country team. This is the second year in a row that Zook was voted MVR after being named co-MVR last year.

Zook places 62nd at NCAA meet

Augustana senior Chris Zook put the finishing touches on a tremendous collegiate cross country career on Saturday, November 21. Zook placed 62nd at the NCAA Division III national cross country championship in Cleveland, Ohio.

Zook advances to nationals

Senior and co-captain, Chris Zook had an impressive showing at the Midwest Regional on Saturday, November 14 as he led the Vikings and finished eighth overall with a time of 24:43. Zook's finish secured him a spot at the NCAA Division III National Meet where he will race his final cross country race in blue and gold. As a team, the Vikings finished seventh scoring 175 points. The meet was hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and was held in Winneconne, Wisconsin at the Lake Breeze Golf Course.

Freshman Nathan Smith took first place in the Junior Varsity Cup meet with a time of 26:57. The meet was held at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa on Friday, November 6.
