Ellen Adams finishes fourth in CCIW women's cross country
KENOSHA, Wis. – Junior Ellen Adams (Glenbard West HS, Glen Ellyn, Ill.) turned in an outstanding effort at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin women’s cross country championship on Saturday, November 1. Adams, who has been Augustana’s number one runner all season long, came through once again. She placed an impressive fourth in the 6,000 meter race that was held at the Wisconsin-Parkside campus and hosted by Carthage College.
Adams, who was 23rd in the CCIW a year ago as a sophomore, turned in a time of 22:50. The individual winner was Lisa Baumert of Wheaton with a clocking of 22:12, well ahead of the second place time of 22:46 recorded by Kat Bednarski of Elmhurst. Kerry Devitt of Illinois Wesleyan finished just ahead of Adams in third with a time of 22:49. Amanda Laesch of North Central took fifth in 22:56.
Adams helped Augustana to a fifth place finish in the team race with 118 points. Wheaton won the title with 41 points with North Central (73), Carthage (75) and Illinois Wesleyan (82) waging a close battle for the next three spots. Behind the Vikings were Elmhurst (134), North Park (233) and Millikin (237).
Junior Jillian Rigert (St. Charles North HS, St. Charles, Ill.) placed 22nd in 23:48 and sophomore Hannah Hottle (Monmouth-Roseville HS, Monmouth, Ill.) was 23rd in 23:49. Junior Krystal Damiano (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) finished 33rd in 24:09 and junior Samantha Laskowski (Reavis HS, Oak Lawn, Ill.) took 42nd in 24:46. Sophomore Meaghan Reaney (Lincoln Way Central HS, New Lenox, Ill.) was 48th in 25:05 and junior Samantha Pancamo (Wauconda HS, Wauconda, Ill.) finished 50th in 25:09.
