2008-09 Season - CCIW women's basketball coaches pick Augustana for seventh in league race

Augustana has been selected to finish seventh in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin women’s basketball chase this winter, according to a vote of the league coaches. The poll was announced today.

Illinois Wesleyan, the defending CCIW champion, got the nod in the pre-season poll with 49 points and seven first place votes. Carthage was tabbed for second with 41 points and the remaining first place vote. Millikin (37), Elmhurst (32), Wheaton (24), North Central (21), Augustana (11) and North Park (9) rounded out the field.

A year ago Augustana was 5-20 overall and 3-11 in the CCIW under the direction of head coach Bobbi Endress. The Vikings will open the 2008-09 season, Endress’ third, on November 15 at the Grinnell Tournament in Grinnell, Iowa.

Voting for the pre-season women’s basketball poll is done by the head women’s basketball coaches in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin. Each coach votes for the seven other schools in the conference in order of predicted finish. Points are assigned in reverse order of voting (seven points for first, six for second, etc.). Coaches may not vote for their own team.
