An absolutely suffocating defense in the second half helped turn the tide as Augustana went on the road and handed 23rd ranked Carthage a 70-59 defeat in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Saturday, February 6. Earlier this season, on January 16, the Vikings had dropped a 69-64 home court decision to the Red Men.

Matt Pelton named to academic all-district team

Augustana senior Matt Pelton has been named to the ESPN – The Magazine Academic All-District team, it was announced today. Pelton, a 6’ 3” guard, was one of just five players selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from District Five. District Five consists of schools from Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Indiana.

Rebounding and hot shooting propel Vikings

Junior Kyle Nelson scored 10 points and pulled down a game high 16 rebounds to help lead Augustana to a crucial road victory in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin on Wednesday, February 3 in Chicago, Illinois. The Vikings used a sizzling first half shooting performance from the floor and a huge rebounding advantage in a 68-63 victory over North Park.

Nelson's 28 leads Vikings to win over Elmhurst

Kyle Nelson converted all 12 of his field goal attempts and four of five free throw opportunities for a career-high 28 points Saturday night, leading Augustana to a 62-49 win over Elmhurst at Carver Center. Nelson's performance fell just two field goals shy of the school single-game record (14 of 14) set by Max Artis against North Park in 1982.

Late flurry not enough in loss to IWU

A slow start hurt Augustana in a 71-64 loss on Wednesday, January 27 in a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin game in the Shirk Center in Bloomington, Illinois. Illinois Wesleyan never trailed in the contest and during the early going had leads of 11-2, 16-4 and 27-13.
