Accounting

"There's no business like show business, but there are several businesses like accounting." -David Letterman

Augustana's highly respected accounting program is designed to meet the professional requirements of accountants in public, private and non-profit environments. Students study principles of accounting, accounting theory, macro- and micro-economics, and business statistics. Additional accounting courses to complete the major are chosen according to specific career goals. Students also receive a full term of academic credit for participation in a full internship. Senior accounting majors may work for a term on the staff of a major public accounting firm to experience public accounting firsthand. The department also arranges accounting internships ranging from internal auditing and budgeting to government contract bidding.

"Experiencing governmental accounting my senior year in Advanced Problems 1 gave me the exposure I needed to feel confident working in the government sector, and my entire education in accounting at Augustana prepared me for the challenges I am currently facing in this career path." - Barbara Ruane on Augustana and her internship at the Governmental Accounting Standards Board

"Whenever I interviewed with graduate programs they were always impressed with the broad perspective that Augustana's liberal arts education provided me with. They were also impressed with the fact that I had a triple major, which I was able to pursue due to the many opportunities that are available at Augustana. I know that my education at Augustana has prepared me not only to succeed in graduate school, but also to excel once I join the workforce." - Curt Hurd
