2008-2009 Season - Rachel Gahn places seventh as Viking golfers take fourth at CCIW Championship
NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Senior Rachel Gahn (Edina HS, Edina, Minn.) shot an 82 on the second day of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championship and placed seventh overall, leading the Vikings to a fourth place finish on Saturday, October 4 at Springbrook Golf Course in Naperville, Illinois.
Augustana finished with a score of 345 on the second day after shooting a team total of 354 on the first day and finished with a two day score of 699, one shot behind North Central (345 353 = 698). Illinois Wesleyan won the team crown with a two day score of 649 (318 311) and Wheaton was second at 681 (343 338). Carthage (358 352 = 710), Elmhurst (370 342 = 712), Millikin (360 356 = 716), and North Park (412 408 = 820) rounded out the field.
Senior Heather Arizpe (Conant HS, Schaumburg, Ill.) shot an 86 on the second day and finished tied for 14th place with a total of 174. Freshman Brittany Carr (Lincoln Way East HS, Frankfort, Ill.) was Augustana’s third scoring golfer for the second straight day, firing a round of 87 to finish tied for 16th place at 176. Junior Katherine Mascheri (Hersey HS, Mount Prospect, Ill.) stepped up and shot a 90 on the final day of the tournament to round out the scoring for the Vikings. She finished in a tie for 33rd place with a score of 187.
Freshman Alexa Fontana (Freeport Aquin HS, Freeport, Ill.) shot a 92 for the second straight day and finished in a tie for 29th place with a score of 184. Junior Elizabeth Scarlata (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) shot a 109 and took 44th place with a two day score of 212.
