2008-2009 Season - Augustana women's golf team in fourth place after opening round of CCIW Championship
NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The Augustana women’s golf team is in fourth place after the opening round of play on Friday, October 3 at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championship at the Springbrook Golf Course in Naperville, Illinois. Augustana shot a team total of 354 in the first round of action.
Illinois Wesleyan leads the team race with a first day total of 318. Wheaton is in second at 343 with North Central close behind in third at 345. Carthage (358), Millikin (360), Elmhurst (370), and North Park (412) round out the field at the conclusion of the first day.
Senior Rachel Gahn (Edina HS, Edina, Minn.) was the top performer for Augustana with a round of 85. She is in ninth place after the first day of competition. Close behind is fellow senior Heather Arizpe (Conant HS, Schaumburg, Ill.) who fired an 88 and is tied for 11th place. Freshman Brittany Carr (Lincoln Way East HS, Frankfort, Ill.) was third for the Vikings with a round of 89 and is tied for 16th place. Freshman Alexa Fontana (Freeport Aquin HS, Freeport, Ill.) rounded out the team scoring for Augustana on the first day, shooting a score of 92.
Juniors Katherine Mascheri (Hersey HS, Mount Prospect, Ill.) and Elizabeth Scarlata (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) also competed for the Vikings. Mascheri shot a 97 and Scarlata fired a 103.
The second day of the CCIW Championship will take place on Saturday, October 4.
