Campus Recycling Program
Augustana’s recycling program was initiated in the 1990’s by students in the Global Affect Environmental Club. In 2006 the program was expanded under the direction of Augustana College Facilities Services Department. Recyclables are collected and processed from all college buildings. All TLA houses and rental houses have recycling through the City of Rock Island’s recycling program.
Augustana has placed first among all participating Illinois colleges and universities in the per-capita weight of recyclables in the nationwide RecycleMania competition since 2007.
Starting in January 2009, Augustana moved to a single-stream recycling program. The following clean recyclable materials can be deposited together in the designated receptacles across campus: Newspaper, Cardboard, Magazines, Books, Paper, Envelopes w/plastic window, Aluminum Cans, Clean Steel Tin Cans, Plastic (no Styrofoam), Glass (clear, Green, Brown), Plastic Grocery Bags.
