2008-2009 Season - Vikings place second at Augie Triangular; Rachel Gahn finishes second and Brittany Carr takes fifth for golf squad
Davenport, Iowa – Senior Rachel Gahn (Edina HS, Edina, Minnesota) once again led the Augustana women’s golf team, finishing in second place as an individual with a round of 79. Her effort, along with an impressive fifth place showing by freshman Brittany Carr (Lincoln Way East HS, Frankfort, Ill.) helped the Vikings finish in second place at the Augie Triangular on Monday, September 1 at the Emeis Golf Course in Davenport, Iowa. Augustana shot a team total of 349, finishing behind St. Ambrose (322), and ahead of Mount Mercy (380).
Gahn led the Vikings with a score of 79 and was followed closely by Carr who fired an 83. Sophomore Jessica Berens (Schaumburg HS, Schaumburg, Ill.) was third for Augustana with a round of 93. Senior Heather Arizpe (Conant HS, Schaumburg, Ill.) rounded out the scoring for the squad with a total of 94.
Freshman Alexa Fontana (Freeport Aquin HS, Freeport, Ill.), junior Elizabeth Scarlata (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.), and sophomore Courtney VandeWiele (Rock Island Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) also competed at the event. Fontana shot a 100, Scarlata finished with a 101, and VandeWiele fired a 102.
Augustana’s next outing will be Saturday, September 6 and Sunday, September 7 when the Vikings travel to Monmouth, Illinois for the Monmouth Invite.
