In Memoriam — Faye Clow
The founder and host of Augustana Public Radio's About Books program, Faye Clow, died on Feb. 18, 2011, at the age of 67. She led the Bettendorf Public Library for 30 years, and shared a wealth of great books with WVIK listeners since 1998. We at WVIK are joined by many in mourning her passing.

WVIK News Director Herb Trix holds the IBNA awards.

Newsroom Honored for Excellence

The Iowa Broadcast News Association recently handed out its awards for excellence in 2010, and WVIK News brought home three of them.

News Director, Herb Trix, won first place in the "Feature" category in the Large Market Radio division for his WVIK News Focus about Daytrotter, a music website based in the Quad Cities as it marked the 10 millionth download from the hundreds of performers it's recorded." LISTEN

News Editor, Michelle O'Neill, won first place in the "Best Use of Sound" category in the Large Market Radio division for her story about Guitar Lessons for students at an alternative high school in Rock Island. LISTEN

O'Neill also won second place in the "Feature" category in the Large Market Radio division for her story on the John Deere Art Collection at the Figge Art Museum. LISTEN


Deere Art at the Figge

The Quad Cities is well-known as the home of John Deere, but what's not well-known is that it's also the home of the company's extensive art collection. That could change starting this weekend, when the Figge Art Museum in Davenport, Iowa opens its new exhibit, "Global Currents: The John Deere Art Collection."

Quad City Development Group History

Over the last 50 years, the Quad City Development Group unified the community and strengthened the local economy. That's according to two past presidents of the organization. This month, it was replaced by a new organization called, "Quad Cities First," and the Illinois and Iowa Quad City chambers of commerce. In the first of a two-part series, Michelle O'Neill talks with former President, Dick Weeks, about the development group's role in the 1960s, '70s, and early '80s.
