Jay Pearce is WVIK's new General Manager

On Tuesday, September 9th, WVIK 90.3 FM, Augustana Public Radio, announced Jay H. Pearce as the station’s new general manager. Formerly the director of created content at Illinois Public Media in Urbana, Ill., Pearce assumed his new role at WVIK on Oct. 3, 2011

“Based on his extensive experience in public radio, it’s apparent that Jay Pearce understands the importance of a station that is accountable to the community it serves. His work in community engagement and content development, especially, will bring a new and vital facet to WVIK’s mission as a public radio station,” said President of the College Steven C. Bahls.

In his position with Illinois Public Media, Pearce was responsible for locally created content for WILL-TV/AM/FM/Online, all public broadcasting stations licensed to the University of Illinois. He also lead funding efforts for Illinois Public Media’s local content creation.

Previously, Pearce worked as station manager at WILL-AM/FM and program director at WILL-AM. During his 36-year career in radio he has held a variety of positions at stations in Illinois, Missouri and Texas.

Newsroom Honored for Excellence

On April 30th, 2011, the Iowa Broadcast News Association announced its awards for excellence in 2010, and the WVIK newsroom brought home one certificate and two plaques.

The certificate, for second place in "Feature" category in the Large Market Radio division, was won by morning news editor Michelle O'Neill for a story on the Deere Art Collection. LISTEN

O'Neill also won a first place plaque for "Best Use of Actuality" (sound) for her feature about a guitar class at the Thurgood Marshall Learning Center in Rock Island. LISTEN

WVIK news director, Herb Trix, won first place for his "Feature" about the online music site Daytrotter, based in Rock Island. LISTEN

“Being a parent has its ups, its downs...,” says host Anna Kronenberger, “and even some loop-de-loops. It’s a journey unlike any other, and we hope through this show to remind people that no one has to make it alone.” The Parent Trip is a half-hour program in which Anna and her expert guests will journey through the ups, downs, and in-betweens of raising a family. The show will feature interviews, a family event calendar, and answers to listener questions. To ask your question for a future program, email Anna at parenttrip@wvik.org.
