Community Outreach Programs

The Jaeke Family Life program is involved in two different categories of community outreach:

I. Funded Programs

  • Grant School in Rock Island
    • Purchase of sewing machines for families to make school uniforms
    • Education classes for parents
      • Talking about sex with your child
      • Helping your child with their math homework
    • Provision of phone line for parent coordinator
  • Mississippi Valley Boys and Girls Club
    • Purchase of pool table
  • Child Abuse Council
    • Buy-a-case sponsor for Life-Saver Campaign
    • Co-sponsor of Midwest Conference on Child Abuse
    • Co-sponsor for Quad-City Week of the Family
  • Augustana College public events
    • Sponsored slide show "Beauty and the Breast" in conjunction with presentation of the play "Purple Breasts" to help raise consciousness about breast cancer
    • Guest Lecturer Dr. John Defrain form the University of Nebraska to speak on the "characteristics of Strong Families"
    • Co-sponsor
  • Community-wide events
    • 1996 Week of the Family
    • Television Consotium discussing children's programming in response to the Children's Television Act--1996

 

II. Research

  • Current research is providing some local couples with the opportunity to improve their marriage relationship.
