Vita of F.C.M. Hansen, from Synod Year Book of 1914, submitted in preparation for ordination, translated from the Danish by Vita M. Jensen.
I, Frederik Chirstein Marinus Hansen, born June 25, 1888 at Vejle, Denmark, am a son of Peder Hansen and Marie Hansen, born Mortensen. I was baptized July 1, 1888 in Sindbjerg Church at Vejle by Pastor Baekke.
In the fall of 1890 I came to Latimer, Iowa with my mother and my older sister, to join my father who had already been there for half a year. Here I spent my infant years in a god-fearing home, where I early learned to pray and to love the Lord Jesus. I went to Sunday School and religion school at St. John's Lutheran church, and from that time I have yet dear memories.
In the month of February, 1901, my parents moved to Bowbells, N.D. Here I attended Sunday School in Bethlehem Church and religion school taught by Missionary Jens Dixen, as well as confirmation instruction by Pastor M.G.H. Rohe. With Pastor Rohe's catechization, I not only admired the old servant of God in his work, but I also became more interested in spiritual matters and desired to learn more about them. On my confirmation day, April 6, 1902, Pastor Rohe spoke to us with such fervor and sincerity that I will never forget it. At that time it was my sincere desire never to stray from God's ways.
Shortly after my confirmation, my parents moved to Kenmare, N.D. where they have lived ever since. In the summer of 1905, there was a great awakening at Trinity Church, especially among the young people. At the spiritual emphasis meetings held in the church, the seriousness of life became clearer to me than before, and I came to realize that I could no longer depend upon the faith of my parents but that I had to choose for myself. With God's grace I decided to live completely for God.
In the summer of 1905, Brorson high school was built, and the 2 following winters I attended school there. The instruction I received at Brorson was an immeasurable blessing for me. It was especially because of missionary Jen Dixen's description of the heathen missions that the thought of becoming a servant of the Lord was born in me. The wish became steadily stronger both when I sought God's will in prayer and when I talked to Jens Dixen and other Christians about it.
In the fall of 1907 I went to Blair, Nebr. with the hope that I could be educated and found fit to take a place in God's vineyard, and I depended on God to show me where and how. When I was finished with the theological preparatory course at Dana College after three years of work, I spent a year at Nebraska State University. After that I came to Blair and began my theological training.
During my summers, I taught relgion school for two summers at Trinity Church, Kenmare, N.D., one summer in Coulter, Iowa, and 2 at Hampton, Nebr.
Since I now by God's grace have passed my theological examinations at Trinity Seminary, and have received a call from the Iowa District of the United Danish Ev. Lutheran Church in America, and from the Danish Ev. Luth. Congregation in Davenport, Iowa, together with a call from Bethany Danish Ev. Luth. Congregation in Moline, Ill., and since I, in my conscience, know I have not used any unworthy means to arrive at this position, I present myself to the United Danish Ev. Luth. Church in America for ordination into the holy pastoral and teaching ministry at the Synod's annual meeting in Greenville, Mich., 1914.
Respectfully, F.C.M. Hansen
