16. Lars Bengtson (73)(1) was born on 7 Dec 1822 in Drared, Veddige, Halland, Sweden. (1) Sponsors were Johannes Bengtsson, Anders Jonasson, tenant farmer Bö Pehrsson's wife, all from Drared, and Kari Bö from Kantabur. Drared and Kantabur are villages in Veddige parish. He was christened on 8 Dec 1822 in Veddige, Halland, Sweden. He was confirmed in 1839. Knowledge rated good. He immigrated in 1867 to from Ä lä. The emigration card lists Lars Bengtsson, his wife Anna Brita Andersdotter, four sons and one daughter. They emigrated from Horred (parish) Ö (large farm) to Amerika in 1867. His occupation was listed as å, or tenant farmer.

Lars and his family immigrated to the United States in 1867. They had considered coming over earlier, but the Civil War and general strife lead them to postpone their decision. The need to sell their farm in Sweden meant that the family did not come over all at once. Lars and his oldest son Andrew came first, followed by Frederic and John, and then his wife Anna Britta and their youngest children James and Anna joined them. He died on 5 Jun 1900. He was buried on 8 Jun 1900 in Batavia, Illinois. Residence at death: 15 S. Jefferson. Lars, along with two other families, organized Bethany Lutheran Church in 1872.
"Received" January 25, 1870, #4: probably indicates start of pre-church activity. He was married to Anna Britta Anderson on 21 Mar 1849 in Istorp, Ä, Sweden. Marriage banns were announced on January 14, 1849.

17. Anna Britta Anderson (74) was born on 15 Feb 1821 in Sorgedalen, Istorp, Ä, Sweden. (1)(75) She was christened on 16 Feb 1821. Witnesses were farmer Peter Andersson, farmhand Bengt Bö, wife Anna Andersdr from Torse, and maiden Anna Bengtsdr also from Torse. Age of mother was 31. She was confirmed in 1836. Knowledge rated good. She immigrated in 1867 to from Horred, Ä, Sweden. She died on 15 Oct 1905 in Batavia, Illinois. Residence at death: 15 S. Jefferson St. She was buried on 19 Oct 1905 in Batavia, Illinois. (1) Anna Brita moved to No. 1 Drared from Istorp parish in 1849. Listed as Andersdotter on the emigration card. Children were:

Witnesses were Anders Eriksson and wife Anna Br. Johansdotter from Elgaslä (?), Berndt Carlsson and wife Christina Eriksotter from No. 4 Kvarnome. Mother introduced 20 Apr 1851. She was christened on 23 Mar 1851. She died on 9 Oct 1851 in Drared, Veddige, Sweden. (13) Residence at No. 1 Drared at time of death. She was buried on 12 Oct 1851. Variant spellings include Inga Cassa and Ingakajsa.
child iii. Berndt Fredrik Bengtson Rev(1) (76) was born on 12 Sep 1852 in Drared, Veddige, Halland, Sweden. Father Lars listed as å (?) at No. 1 Drared. Age of mother is 31. Witnesses were And. Andersson and wife Anna Br. Larsdotter of No. 1 Drared, Joh B. Bö, C, Bö, Minu (?) Johansdotter. He was christened on 16 Sep 1852. He immigrated in 1867 to to U.S. from Ä, Sweden. He was confirmed in 1870. He was ordained on 28 Jun 1885 in Rockford, Illinois. Augustana Theological seminary ? - 1885

Coos Bay, now Trinity Lutheran Church, Marshfield, Oregon, 1901-1909 He died on 21 Jul 1934 in Providence Valley, near Dawson, Minnesota. During the last few years he was an invalid and totally blind. He suffered a stroke in 1930 which left his right side paralyzed and bereft him of speech. Retired in 1909.
Returned to Providence Valley from Oregon in 1917.

child vii. James (Johannes) Bengtson(1) was born on 1 Feb 1861 in Veddige, Halland, Sweden. He immigrated in 1867 to to Batavia, Illinois. He was confirmed on 23 Jul 1876 in Batavia, Illinois. He died on 3 Aug 1932. He was buried on 5 Aug 1932 in Batavia, Illinois. Started a decorating company in 1887. Later raised Anna's children when they became orphaned.
