RESEARCH INTERESTS
My research is concentrated in two areas: liquid crystals and dendrimers. My primary research is the synthesis of spirocyclic ring systems to be used as chiral liquid crystals. Another area of research is the design and synthesis of dendrimers that could be used as catalysis in asymmetric synthesis.

Chiral Liquid Crystals
Chiral liquid crystals demonstrate unique physical and optical properties, which have applications in optical devices. Spirocyclic ring systems are know to form liquid crystals with unique ferroelectric and photochromic properties. This research would synthesize spirocyclic systems as enantiomers. The goal would be combine the properties of chiral liquid crystals and spirocyclic systems.

Catalytic Dendrimers
This research would investigate the incorporation of chiral sites into dendrimers. These chiral sites would complex metals that would catalyze asymmetric syntheses. The benefit of dendrimers is that they can be recovered and reused.
