I am a new Dad! My son, Karl August Jensen, was born on May 10, 2003.
See pictures of him on his own website at: http://jejensen.home.mchsi.com/karl/. Since May 10th, pretty much the rest of my personal interests are on the back burner, but if you'd like to learn more about me, read on...
I grew up in beautiful Northern California wine country and finished my Associates Degree in Chemistry and Engineering at Santa Rosa Junior College. I then moved to Reno, Nevada to complete my Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry at UNR where I developed an interest in material science. My senior research project involved the synthesis of monomers for non-linear optic polymers. From Nevada, I went to the Bluegrass State to complete my Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry (2003) at the University of Kentucky. My research focused on organic light emitting diodes and molecular conductors. In the Fall of 2002, I accepted a faculty position here at Augustana College where I will be teaching organic chemistry. My current research interests include: chiral liquid crystals and catalytic dendrimers. This summer (2003) I am starting to do research with Dr. Mary Ellen Biggin and three students. While at UNR, I married my high school sweetheart, Jill. She has her Master's Degree in Library and Information Science and worked as a Librarian at the University of Kentucky. She spent several years working at the Chemistry/Physics Library - so if you catch her around campus she can help you out with research...By the way, she is also a web developer and designed this web site. (A side note: I strongly urged you to make the acquaintance of the Librarians here at Augustana. They can be a great help to you in your studies and research and can provide a wealth of information that you may not have even known to ask for.) We also have a tabby cat named "Tubby" who is an adorable (but spoiled) three year-old. He is not sure if he likes his younger brother, yet. I enjoy a wide variety of leisure activities including: golf, darts, chess, and an occasional game of Magic. |
