About SGA :

Q1.What is SGA?

A. The Augustana Student Government Association is the official representative for all students on campus. Its duties include but are not limited to:

  • Serving as a liaison between the administration, faculty, and the student body.
  • Representing student concerns, opinions, and ideas in all college affairs.
  • Promoting the general welfare of the student body.

Q2.How do I get involved in SGA?

A. SGA consists of 36 elected senators with four coming from the sophomore, junior, and senior classes, five from the first year class, one from each residence hall, one TLA rep, one from each of the six academic divisions (Natural Sciences; Social Sciences; Business and Education; History, Philosophy, and Religion; Language and Literature; and Fine and Performing Arts), and one each from Greek Council, SAAC, MPB, CUBOM, and Campus Ministries. The elected officers are the President and the Vice-President. With Senate approval, the positions of Secretary, Treasurer, and Speaker of the Senate are appointed by the President and Vice-President. The Speaker of the Senate, unlike the Secretary and Treasurer, must be first elected an SGA Senator to be appointed.

Q3.When are elections held?

A. Executive board, academic division, and sophomore, junior, and senior class elections are held each spring term. First-year elections are held during the beginning of fall term.

Q4.Are transfer students eligible for First Year elections?

A. Transfer students are not eligible for First Year elections but are encourage to run in the spring.

Q5.What if I do not get elected or cannot commit the time to be active in SGA?

A. All students at Augustana are members of SGA and are encouraged to attend the weekly meetings. For more info on how to get involved in SGA please contact us at sga@augustana.edu .

Q6.Where does SGA's money come from?

A. Every year the student activities fee is divided between the Office of Student Activities and SGA. SGA decides how this money is spent amongst Augustana's student organizations.

Q7.When and where does SGA meet?

A. SGA meets weekly on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the College Center Board Room, located on the 2nd floor of the College Center.
