Child Abuse Council
Throughout the year, Phi Rho makes packets for the Healthy Families Program of the Child Abuse Council (CAC). The Child Abuse Council is a United Way funded agency dedicated to preventing child abuse and promoting healthy family relationships. They work to help families, professionals, and the community through prevention and treatment programs, youth services, training and public awareness activities. Their philosophy has always been one of community effort and cooperation. Phi Rho 's effort has greatly assisted the CAC in their mailings to new mothers of Rock Island County in an effort to prevent child abuse.
- For Halloween this past fall, Phi Rho volunteers participated at Boo in the Zoo. Boo in the Zoo is an annual event at Niabi Zoo conducted by the Child Abuse Council for needy children in the Quad City Area. Phi Rho supervised one of the many booths set up around the zoo to hand out treats and play games with the children.
- On Augie Week's Service Day, Phi Rho joined with members of other sororities to create packets, monthly newsletters and blue ribbons for volunteers of the CAC to wear during Child Abuse Prevention Month in April. A total of 2,400 packets were made for new mothers, 1,000 pamphlets for a "New Dad Boot Camp," and 350 blue ribbons.
