'Darwin's Romantic Biology'

Robert J. Richards is a Professor of History, Philosophy, and Psychology at the University of Chicago. A well-renowned historian of biology, Richards specializes in evolutionary biopsychology, ethology, sociobiology, and German romanticism and has authored multiple books, including Darwin and the Emergence of Evolutionary Theories of Mind and Behavior (1987, winner of the Pfizer Prize in History of Science) and The Romantic Conception of Life: Science and Philosophy in the Age of Goethe (2002). On December 16, Richards will intertwine two of his favorite topics, evolutionary biology and German romanticism, into an Origin Day lecture. Be there or be square!

Origin Day

Origin Day is devoted to celebrating the publication of The Origin of Species by Charles Darwin. Originally published in November of 1859, Origin is recognized as one of the most important texts in all of biology.  Because Origin Day falls during thanksgiving break, the club is planning it's 2003 celebration for December 16th. Informational packets and Darwin Club merchandise will be available in the Science Building on the day of the lecture. Dr. Karen Bartelt, Professor of Chemistry at Eureka College gave the 2002 Augustana Origin Day lecture.
