Events Darwin Day (Feburary 12, Charles Darwin's birthday) is an international celebration of science in humanity. The goal of Darwin Day is to recognize the life and works of Darwin and to celebrate and discuss the philosophical and scientific significance of evolutionary biology. With the inception of the Darwin Club, Augustana first began celebrating Darwin Day in 2002. This year's celebration has been expanded into an entire week due to an overwhelmingly positive response in past years. Guest Lecture: (Tues, Feb 3, 7 pm, SC102) Dr. Milford H. Wolpoff, professor of Anthropology, University of Michigan (co-sponsored by Sigma Xi, John Deere Chapter) 'The Neanderthal in your Closet' Faculty Panel: Augustana professors discuss the philosophical and scientific significance of evolution-Humanity's Place in Nature- featuring Dr. Jason Peters, Dr. Heidi Storl, Dr. Bodahn Dziadyk, and Pator Priggie 4:30 pm, Tues. Feb. 10 Movie: 'Adaptation' will play in the Olin Auditorium Past Darwin Day speakers include: Dr. Kevin Geedey, Professor of Biology, Augustana College. "One Hundred and Forty-Three Years Without Darwin are Enough." (2002) Dr. Gary Mann, Professor of Religion, Augustana College. "Intersection between evolutionary theory and theology: Can a Darwinian be a Christian?" (2002) Dr. Robert Pennock, Professor of Philosophy, Michigan State University. "The Evolutionary Design of Organs of Extreme Perfection." (2003)
