Weather emergencies

Augustana's geographic location will experience a variety of weather-related incidences. Please read directions for each warning below:

WATCH: Conditions are favorable for the development of severe weather in our immediate area. Closely monitor local weather via radio, television or the internet, and be prepared to take shelter quickly if the situation worsens.

WARNING: Severe weather that is considered high-risk has been observed in the area. Quad-City and Augustana sirens may sound to alert the community of the warning. Closely monitor the local weather via radio, television or the internet, and be prepared to immediately follow the directions of emergency personnel. Anyone outside should immediately seek shelter in an interior location away from windows. If you are in a vehicle, seek shelter in a building, or if that is not possible, in a ditch.

THUNDERSTORMS AND WIND: Quad-City sirens inform local residents when thunderstorms and/or damaging winds are forecast that can bring down trees, power lines, etc. While a WATCH and WARNING should precede the actual conditions, checking the weather periodically and keeping an eye on the sky are helpful during severe storms or periods of high winds. The Quad-Cities area is susceptible to high winds and significant damage, including power outages. Augustana sirens will sound when the community sirens sound, but remember that Augustana sirens are also used to indicate an emergency on campus. Remember to check e2Campus, campus email or the Augustana website to confirm the type of emergency. If severe weather is indicated, seek shelter immediately in an interior location away from windows. If you are outside or in a vehicle, seek shelter in a building, or if that is not possible, in a ditch.

TORNADOS: Quad-City sirens are used to inform local residents that a trained spotter has identified a tornado(s) in the area and to seek shelter immediately. Augustana sirens will sound when the community sirens sound, but remember that Augustana sirens are also used to indicate an emergency on campus. Remember to check for e2Campus notifications, campus email or the Augustana website to confirm the type of emergency. Seek shelter immediately in an interior location away from windows. If you are in a vehicle, seek shelter in a building, or if that is not possible, in a ditch. Vehicles are unsafe during a tornado.

Those who are injured or those who see damage should call 911 or Augustana Security at x7711.
