Travel to Augustana
|Family Weekend occurs early each Fall Term and is an ideal time for parents to visit campus.|
Rock Island is located in a region called the Quad Cities. It is comprised of two cities in Iowa (Davenport and Bettendorf) and two in Illinois (Moline and Rock Island). The airport that serves this area is located in Moline and is called the Quad City Airport (airport code MLI). The airport is about 15 minutes from campus. Please note that you will not be able to fly directly in or out of our airport. Your student will have to land in a larger U.S. city and then take a connecting flight to our airport.
There is not a train service that comes to the Quad Cities. However Trailways Bus does pick up and drop off students on campus. Many students take the bus to Chicago. Information on ticket price and schedules for the bus may be found at www.trailways.com.
Visiting Your Student
Should you wish to visit your son or daughter during the year, we welcome you and would be glad to show you around campus. Please note that you are not able to stay in the residence halls during your stay. If you eat in the dining hall, you will have to pay for your own meal. You will not be able to use your student's meal card.
We recommend that you visit this list of hotels in the area. We ask that you coordinate your visit with the time of the term that would be the least stressful for your student. Students are busiest at the beginning, the middle and the end of the term. Talk with your son or daughter to see what their schedules are like during the term. During Fall Term Augustana hosts a Family Weekend — and this is a perfect time to visit. If you want to meet with a specific department (for instance the Business Office or Financial Aid) we can arrange a meeting for you, as well as a tour of the campus.
