Welcome Week 2014
Welcome Week will begin Thursday, Aug. 21, and run through Sunday, Aug. 24. Classes will begin on Monday, Aug. 25.
Welcome Week is designed to ease your transition to Augustana College. On the Thursday afternoon before classes begin, you and your parents will arrive on campus for our events, including a campus picnic and Opening Convocation. After your parents depart, you will have three days in which you can explore the campus, meet fellow students and other community members, and settle into your new home.
A wide range of group-building events will help you become acquainted with life on campus. You will witness a professional hypnotist in action. You'll spend an evening socializing with new friends as you cruise the Mississippi River on the Celebration Belle.
Of course, we also will help you gain your academic footing as you begin your Augustana education. You will meet one-on-one with your advisor and with your LSFY 101 instructor, where you will join a discussion of the summer reading. By the time you start classes on Monday, you will already be well acquainted with your new home and community.
Watch for more information about Welcome Week, which we'll mail to you and your family in late July. We will provide you with a schedule of activities, campus maps and all the details you'll need when you arrive Aug. 21. We look forward to seeing you then!

What you need to know about Welcome Week 2014
Residence hall students
Information you and your family need for Welcome Week, Augustana's kick-off for new students, will be waiting for you at your assigned residence hall when you check in between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014. When you report to your assigned residence hall, Residential Life staff will provide an information packet with materials you will need for your orientation to Augustana. Athletes who arrive early will have Welcome Week materials delivered to their rooms.
Information you and your family need for Welcome Week, Augustana's kick-off for new students, will be waiting for you at the Center for Student Life (Gavle Room, fourth floor) when you check in between 9 a.m. and noon on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014.
All students will receive the following items in their orientation packet:
1. Campus maps. You will receive two maps in your packet: a campus map will help you navigate the grounds of your new home, and a second map will direct your family to their Thursday meeting with your advisor.
2. Welcome Week schedules. We will provide a detailed schedule of all Welcome Week events, as well as events scheduled for new students during the week following. You'll also find a second schedule listing only Thursday events, an easy reference for your first day on campus.
3. Your personal name tag. This is more than just a name tag because it lists your advising group number and other important information not provided elsewhere. It's yours to wear throughout Welcome Week to identify you as a student, to help others learn your name, and to identify your assigned advising group, meeting locations, and the names of your peer mentor and advisor. All of this information is printed on your name tag so you can refer to it at any time. Please place the name tag around your neck as soon as you receive it.
