Welcome Week 2015
Welcome Week will begin Thursday, Aug. 20, and run through Sunday, Aug. 23. Classes will begin on Monday, Aug. 24.
Welcome Week is designed to ease your transition to Augustana College. On the Thursday afternoon before classes begin, you and your parents will arrive on campus for our events, including a picnic and Opening Convocation. After your parents depart, you will have three days to explore campus, meet fellow students and other community members, and settle into your new home.
A range of group-building events will help you become acquainted. You will see a professional hypnotist in action. You'll spend an evening socializing with new friends as you cruise the Mississippi River on the Celebration Belle.
Of course, we also will help you gain your academic footing as you begin your Augustana education. You will meet one-on-one with your advisor and with your instructor for Liberal Studies First Year 101. You will join a discussion of the summer reading. By the time you start classe, you will be well acquainted with your new home.
Watch for more information about Welcome Week, which we'll mail to you and your family in late July. We will provide you with a schedule of activities, maps and all you'll need when you arrive. We look forward to seeing you!

What you need to know about Welcome Week 2015
Residence hall students
Information you and your family need for Welcome Week will be waiting at your assigned residence hall when you check in between 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20. When you report to your assigned hall, Residential Life staff will provide materials you will need for orientation. Athletes who arrive early will have Welcome Week materials delivered to their rooms.
Information you and your family need will be waiting for you at the Center for Student Life (Gävle Room, fourth floor) when you check in between 9 a.m. and noon on Thursday, Aug. 20.
All students will receive the following items in their orientation packet:
1. Campus maps. You will receive two maps in your packet: a campus map will help you navigate the grounds of your new home, and a second map will direct your family to their Thursday meeting with your advisor.
2. Welcome Week schedules. We will provide a detailed schedule of all Welcome Week events, as well as events scheduled for new students during the week following. You'll also find a second schedule listing only Thursday events, an easy reference for your first day on campus.
3. Your name tag. This is more than just a name tag because it lists your advising group number and other important information not provided elsewhere. It's yours to wear throughout Welcome Week to identify you as a student, to help others learn your name, and to identify your assigned advising group, meeting locations, and the names of your peer mentor and advisor. All of this information is printed on your name tag so you can refer to it at any time. Please place the name tag around your neck as soon as you receive it.
