Ice storms or similar conditions

Ice storms or rain that freezes on branches, roads and walkways can be extremely dangerous. Conditions usually deteriorate over time, create power outages and make travel difficult. Limit driving since roads can be slick even when salted. Take extra precautions when walking. While Augustana's Facility Services will salt and clear walkways as soon as possible, the size of the campus and accumulation of ice may make it impossible to create safe conditions for several hours after the storm has moved out of the area. The safest place to be during and immediately after this type of weather is at a residence where food, water and shelter are accessible for a prolonged period of time.
