Academic Search Premier
Offers the full text of articles from a wide range of academic areas, including business, the social sciences, the humanities, general science, and education. It features the full text for over 4,500 journals (many dating back to 1990), and abstracts and indexing for over 8,000 periodicals and scholarly journals, over 3,600 of which are peer-reviewed.

AnthroSource
Developed by the American Anthropological Association (AAA), AnthroSource brings 100 years of anthropological material online, including current issues for 15 of the AAA's most critical peer-reviewed publications (including American Anthropologist, American Ethnologist, Anthropology and Education Quarterly, and Medical Anthropology Quarterly) and an electronic archive of all AAA journals.


Bibliography of Asian Studies
References western-language articles and book chapters published since 1971 about all parts of Asia.

CIAO (Columbia International Affairs Online)
A comprehensive source for theory and research in international affairs. Includes working papers from university research institutes, occasional papers from non-governmental organizations (NGOs), foundation-funded research projects, proceedings from conferences, books, journals, and policy briefs from 1991 to the present.

Clase & Periodica
A database of Latin American journals that indexes documents in 2,600 scholarly journals published in Spanish, Portuguese, French, and English. These journals specialize in science, technology, the social sciences, and the humanities.

Contemporary Women's Issues (CWI)
Indexes information on women in over 150 countries from sources including journals, newsletters, reports, newspapers, directors, guides, fact sheets, pamphlets and proceedings.  Citations, many of which include links to full-text articles, cover health, reproductive rights, development, human rights, legal and workplace issues, lesbian concerns, violence, and feminism.

CQ Researcher
Provides original, comprehensive reporting and analysis on issues in the news. CQ Researcher offers in-depth, non-biased coverage of political and social issues, with regular reports on topics in health, international affairs, education, the environment, technology, and the U.S. economy.

CQ Weekly
CQ Weekly is known as the pre-eminent resource for Congress-watchers who need non-partisan information on Capitol Hill. CQ Weekly includes access to the full text of all articles published since 1983.

Essay & General Literature Index
Cites essays and articles contained in collections of essays and other works published in the United States, Great Britain and Canada 1985 to present. More than 300 volumes and 20 annual or serial publications indexed annually. Includes full bibliographic information for the titles in which the collected works are found. Focuses on humanities and social sciences literature.


Family and Society Studies Worldwide
A comprehensive source of valuable research literature in the fields of anthropology, sociology, psychology, demography, health sciences, education, economics, law, history, and social work. This resource currently provides access to over 630,000 citations and abstracts from over 2,000 professional journals, books, popular literature resources, and other sources.

Gallup Brain
Gallup Brain features the full text of every Gallup Poll conducted in the United States since 1935.


Handbook of Latin American Studies
A bibliography on Latin America consisting of works selected and annotated by scholars. Edited by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress, the multidisciplinary Handbook alternates annually between the social sciences and the humanities. Each year, more than 130 academics from around the world choose over 5,000 works for inclusion in the Handbook.

HAPI (Hispanic American Periodicals Index)
A source for over 265,000 journal article citations about Central America, South America, the Caribbean, Mexico, Brazil, and Hispanics/Latinos in the United States.  HAPI currently provides over 34,000 links to the full text of articles appearing in more than 500 key social science and humanities journals published throughout the world.

IDIOM (Links to CD-ROM)
Indexes and tables of contents to over 7,000 of the most important monographic texts in the humanities and social sciences from 1922-1994.


In the First Person
Provides in-depth indexing of more than 3,350 collections of personal narratives in English from around the world, including 20,500 months of diary entries, 63,000 letter entries, and 17,000 oral history entries.  (About 25% of the material in this database is copyright-protected and cannot be accessed for free.  Use the “Search Documents” advanced search to limit to free products only.)

JSTOR Journal Archive
Stores hundreds of scholarly journals in full-text format, including many social science journals.  Journals can be searched by title or subject, individually or in groups.  For each journal, articles from the first volume through to two to five years before today’s date are available.  Here's why.

LexisNexis Academic Universe
Provides access to current information in law and business, and to the full text of major newspapers from around the world.

Library Literature
Indexes articles and book reviews from key library and information science periodicals published in the United States and elsewhere. Books, chapters in collected works such as conference proceedings, library school theses, and pamphlets are also indexed. Limited to one user at a time.

PAIS (Public Affairs Information Service) International
Contains references to more than 553,300 journal articles, books, government documents, statistical directories, conference reports, publications of international agencies, and more, dating from 1972 to the present.  Materials from over 150 countries are included, on subjects such as campaign funding, disaster relief, free speech, political persecution, and many other topics of public interest.

PRISMA
PRISMA (Publicaciones y Revistas Sociales y Humanísticas) is a comprehensive reference resource providing full-text scholarly journals in the social sciences and humanities for the interdisciplinary academic study of Hispanic and Latin America, and the Caribbean Basin. PRISMA features Spanish, Portuguese and English language content. Articles examine all aspects of Hispanic Studies, from research on indigenous cultures past and present to current economic indicators, politics and society, and Hispanic theatre. Coverage includes Anthropology, Business and Economics, History, Literature, Political Science and Sociology.


PsycINFO
Contains over two million citations and summaries of scholarly journal articles, book chapters, books, and dissertations, all in psychology and related disciplines.  Journal coverage, which dates back to the 1887, includes international material selected from more than 2,100 periodicals in over 25 languages.

Social Sciences Abstracts
Indexes and abstracts more than 600 publications covering a wide range of interdisciplinary fields such as addiction studies, anthropology, corrections, economics, gender studies, gerontology, minority studies, political sciences, psychology, sociology, and more. Indexing coverage dates back to 1983 and abstracts date back to 1994.

Sociological Abstracts
Abstracts and indexes the international literature in sociology and related disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences. The database provides abstracts of journal articles and citations to book reviews drawn from over 1,800 serials publications, and also provides abstracts of books, book chapters, dissertations, and conference papers. Many records from key journals in sociology also include the references cited in the bibliography of the source article.

Women and Social Movements
Contains over 30,000 pages of documents from 1769 - present pertaining to women and social movements, with an additional 5,000 pages added annually. The database is organized into "document projects" which pose a question (i.e., "How Did Women Participate in the Underground Railroad?") and present a collection of documents to answer that question.

APA Style Guide to Electronic Resources

With more than 40 example references, this comprehensive yet succinct electronic guide offers up-to-date information on formatting electronic references in APA style. The APA Style Guide to Electronic References outlines for students and writers the key elements to include in references to electronic sources, with numerous examples.

Among the new examples are dissertations and theses; bibliographies; curriculum and course material; reference materials, including Wiki; gray literature, such as conference hearings, presentation slides, and policy briefs; general interest media and alternative presses such as audio podcasts; and online communities, such as Weblog posts and video Weblog posts.

AAA Style Guide
This page links to a pdf of the style guide used by the American Anthropological Association.  Many upper-level Anthropology classes at Augustana will require the use of AAA style for research papers.

Annenburg Political Fact Check
A project of the Annenburg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania, this website montiors the factual accuracy of what is said by major U.S. political players in the form of TV ads, debates, speeches, interviews, etc.  The Center is a nonpartisan, nonprofit group that accepts no outside funding.

Background Notes
From the U.S. State Department, these publications include facts about the land, people, history, government, political conditions, economy, and foreign relations of independent states, some dependencies, and areas of special sovereignty.  The Notes are updated/revised by the Office of Electronic Information and Publications of the Bureau of Public Affairs as they are received from the Department's regional bureaus.

Census.gov
An internet resource that acts as a gateway to statistical information collected by the U.S. Census Bureau and other government agencies.  Includes national, state, county, and metropolitan information on housing, employment, and social demographics.

CensusScope
Intimidated by the official U.S. Census website? CensusScope, a site developed by the University of Michigan's Social Science Data Analysis Network, analyzes the vast amount of data gathered in the 1990 and 2000 U.S. Census and displays it in easy-to-understand graphs and charts. Topics charted include racial diversity, segregation, population growth, educational levels, etc. Tables can be copied into word-processing or spreadsheet programs for further manipulation.

CIA - The World Factbook
Provided by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, The World Factbook provides national-level information on countries, territories, and dependencies.  It is updated periodically throughout the year.

Community Resources On-Line
The "Iowa 2-1-1 Information and Referral Database" allows you to select a state (Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, or Wisconsin), county, even city to search for particular social service agencies and organizations.

Find-It! Illinois
The gateway to the Illinois State Library, this site includes links to the statewide Illinois library catalog and webpages published by the various agencies of Illinois government.

FirstGov.gov
A gateway to U.S. Government information, FirstGov contains links to various types of governmental information, including data and statistics; laws and regulations; local, state, tribal, and federal governments; consumer information; etc.   

GPO Access
The official website of the U.S. Government Printing Office.  This website provides access to virtually every publication distributed by the Federal government, including bills and laws, the Congressional Record, the Code of Federal Regulations, Presidential materials, and publications produced by various government agencies.  Also use GPO Access to locate local federal depository libraries to access copies of government publications in print.

Illinois Data
A collection of statistical reports on Illinois demographics, crime, labor, and economics compiled by the Northern Illinois Business and Industry Data Center.

InfoNation
A resource developed by the United Nations that allows the statistical information of different countries to be readily compared.  Pre-select the countries to compare by statistical “grouping” (e.g., socioeconomic, governmental, etc.) or skip this step by selecting “all countries” to select specific statistics to compare.  Information is presented in graph form for easy visual comparison.
