Introduction
The following information is intended as a
guide and starting point for locating religious studies information on the
web. The Augustana Library has a good collection of circulating
books, journals,
and reference books and it is often easier and quicker to find the
information you are seeking in those
resources than on the web. If you do choose to use web-based resources
this is a good place to start. Faculty in the Religion Department and the
Library have collected some of the most appropriate web resources for the
kind of work done here at Augustana.
There are at least two large and overlapping audiences for materials
concerning religion, spirituality and the Bible, an academic audience
interested in a scholarly approach to these subjects and an audience
interested in exploring and deepening their faith. This is true for
materials published in print and for materials on the web. You need to
decide whether a particular resource is appropriate for your needs. Visit
the library's
web evaluation page for ideas on how to do this. If you need assistance
using these resources or obtaining further information, please see a
reference librarian.
Don't forget to visit
Religion Index. The ATLA Religion Database is designed to support
religious and theological research. The file contains citations from
international titles and 13,000 multi-author works in and related to the
field of religion. It also includes a full range of index citations to
journal articles, essays in multi-author works, book reviews, and doctoral projects from ATLA's
print indexes.
