Online Databases
Religion Research
ATLA Religion Index
Created by the American Theological Library Association, this database contains citations and full text to more than 1,100 scholarly
journals, essays, and publications in religion and related fields.
Old Testament Abstracts
This database features indexing and abstracts for journal articles, monographs,
multi-author works, and software related to Old Testament studies. Content from
over 450 journals is covered. All abstracts are in English, regardless of the
language of the original work. Topics covered include antiquities, archaeology,
biblical theology, philology and much more. Coverage in the database dates back
to 1978.
Drama/Theater Research
Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians
Start here. Find out as much as you can about the opera, the composer,
librettist, and productions of the work. Look at the bibliography at the ends of
articles to gather more resources. Search for books in
ALiCat
that you found mentioned in Grove. Or do a fresh search on the
opera, composer, etc.
Online Databases:
You will find articles in magazines, newspapers, and academic journals, as well
as essays in books in these online databases. You might look for reviews of
productions as well as critical appraisals of the drama.
•
Academic Search Premier (EBSCO)
A multi-disciplinary database, ASP provides access to popular magazine articles
as well as academic journals. A good place to find recent material, reviews, and
critical appraisals.
•
LexisNexis Academic Universe
Full text access to newspapers across the country and around the world, and
articles in magazines and journals. Great place for contemporary reviews and
discussions of dramas as they were being received by the critics and the public.
• New York Times Online
http://www.nytimes.com/
The Times on the web provides free access to articles from 1987 to the present.
You can search older articles and get the full text on our microfilm copies of
the newspaper.
• New York Times Index
REF AI21 .N4
Access to the New York Times prior to the early 1980s is limited electronically.
You can search for articles in the archives online (see above) or you can search
our very cool hard cover indexes to the Times in the reference collection. Each
volume covers one year.
•
JSTOR Journal Archive
This database provides full text access to the complete files of a good number
of academic journals in music. JSTOR does not, however, include the most recent
2 to 5 years of journal articles.
•
RILM Abstracts
RILM is devoted to indexing music in journals and other academic writings and
provides coverage back to 1967. Limited full text.
