The ACS Style Guide can be found at REF QD 8.5 .A25 2006 or at the reference desk. Chapter 6 called References has many examples and journal abbreviations that will be helpful. Journal abbreviations can also be found at the Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) website at http://www.cas.org/expertise/cascontent/caplus/corejournals.html or in Periodical Title Abbreviations: By Title in the reference collection at REF PN4832 .P4 2001.  

Journal (Title of article optional in citation):

Author, A. B.; Author, C. D. Title of Article. Jour. Abbrev. Year, vol, xx-yy.  

Magazine with dates instead of volume numbers (Title of article optional in citation):

Author, A. B.; Author, C. D. Title of Article. Full Magazine Title. October 26, 1995, p. 20.

Online Periodicals Based on Print Editions (Title of article optional in citation):

Author 1; Author 2; etc. Title of Article. Jour. Abbre. [Online] Year, Volume, Inclusive pagination if available. URL (accessed Month Day, Year).

Online Periodicals Retrieved from a Database Provider like ACS or Science Direct (Title of article optional in citation):
Author A. B.; Author C. D. Title of Article. Jour. Abbre. [Online] Complete date or Volume, issue information. Database provider. URL (accessed Month Day, Year).

Book without editors:

Author, A. B.; Author, C. D. Book Title; Series Name and number; Publisher: City, STATE (2 letters), year; Vol. 1, pp xx-yy.

Book with editors, no authors named:
