Preparing for International Student Registration

International Student Registration is Friday, Aug. 11, 2017. At this event, Augustana staff will help students register for fall classes.

To prepare, students need to complete the steps below. For some steps, a student ID number is required. Your student ID number was included in the package mailed to you from our Admissions office.

Please complete the "Things to do now" as soon as possible. The remaining steps are things to do before attending International Student Registration.

Things to do now

Step 1: Confirm your email address

Until you arrive at Augustana, we will communicate with you at your personal email address. Please verify your email address.

Step 2: Take a language placement test, if applicable

You received a Placement Guide in the packet mailed to you. Please refer to that guide or click here to see if you are required to take a language placement test. You can take the test at this link as well. If you do not need a language placement test, please proceed to Step 3.

Step 3: Complete the Student Readiness Survey

This survey asks questions about your academic habits, behaviors and values. The results help Augustana advisors understand a student's strengths and their opportunities to grow. Please take the survey here. You will talk with your advisor about your survey results when you meet in the fall.

Step 4: Watch for an email from Augustana confirming we have received your placement test (if applicable) and survey

After you have completed Steps 1, 2 and 3, you will receive an email from orientation@augustana.edu within one week. If you do not receive the email within one week, please email orientation@augustana.edu.

Things to do before registration

Step 1: Explore classes and majors

If you have an idea what you would like to study at Augustana, you can see the courses required for the major here. If you are not sure what you would like to study, that is all right. You have plenty of time to explore by taking different courses. Remember, you will register for fall classes when you attend registration. You cannot register for classes online before this event.

If you are not seeking a degree at Augustana or will be here less than one year, watch for an email from Danny Kim. He will address your academic needs.

Step 2: Choose two courses that interest you in each Learning Perspective

To be ready for registration, please see the Matrix of Learning Perspective Courses included in your packet from Admissions. Then read the course descriptions here and identify courses that interest you. Circle two choices in each Learning Perspective and bring your document to registration. This will help your fall registration go more smoothly. Final course selections will be made with an advisor and depend upon course availability and intended major.

Step 3: Begin work on your first writing assignment for Augustana College

All degree-seeking students complete their first writing assignment before arriving on campus in the fall. For this assignment, you will read the book "Hillbilly Elegy" by J.D. Vance. All incoming first-year students will read this book for the Augie Reads program. You will receive an email from associate dean Kristin Douglas that explains your assignment. Watch for that email and get started reading right away! Your assignment is due on one of the first days of class in the fall.
