Computer services

Hardware and software

You are not required do bring a computer to campus although most students do. All students can take advantage of computer labs on campus. Computer labs in the Olin Center and the Tredway Library are open seven days a week when school is in session.

Both Windows machines and Macs are used throughout the college.

Augustana offers Microsoft Office 2016. Anti-virus is not provided, but is highly encouraged. You can learn more about protecting your computer here.

You don't need to bring a personal printer. Printers are available in computer labs on campus, and each student is given a yearly printing credit that should more than cover required printing.

You may want to bring a portable hard drive and/or USB flash drive to back up important documents.

Network access

Wireless internet access is available to students in their residence hall rooms and Transitional Living Areas. Personal routers are not allowed in our residence halls and Transitional Living areas. This is due to the fact that they cause interference and degradation to our campus wireless system. Any router found will have their Ethernet connections disabled and, as a result, the router hardware may be confiscated.

However, students also may wish to bring an Ethernet cable for a direct connection into the Augustana network as a backup from their rooms.

How to access our wireless network

Your laptop will need to be wireless-ready — all new laptops are.

The first time you connect to Augustana's wireless network, you will need to register your computer by filling out basic information and entering your Augustana login and password. Then you will need to reboot. If you have family visiting Augustana, there is a provision for guest access.

On most computers you may have to click the icon for your wireless card on your screen. Click the Search button and a list of hotspots will show up; double-click on the one you want.

Our network ids are OpenAugieWiFi, GuestsofAugustana, GameConsolesAC, and AugieWiFi(Secured).

AugieWiFi(Secured)

  • Your device must be registered via our network registration system before it will be allowed on the network.
  • While this is the preferred method for students, as it is encrypted and secured with Augustana network authentication, please use into OpenAugieWifi first to register your device.
  • Once you are connected to OpenAugieWifi, go to connect.augustana.edu/activate to set up your secured connection if you are on a Windows computer.
  • It should prompt you for username and password at log on and you should use your Augustana Network username and password to log in.

OpenOpenAugieWiFi

  • This network is an unencrypted, open system for devices that cannot connect via AugieWiFi(Secured) such as possible smart phones, tablets, game consoles etc.
