POSTER PRESENTATION GUIDELINES

The Second Illinois Hill Prairie Conference is placing special emphasis on innovative management ideas, techniques and new tools. Students conducting research that would have useful implications to hill prairie management as well as professional land managers and contractors with new techniques and tools for hill prairie management are invited to share their results with conference attendees through the preparation of posters. The following information and guidelines are meant to aid presenters in preparing effective posters.

Poster display area

Each poster presentation will be allocated a panel measuring 8 ft (2.4m) x 4 ft (1.2m). Additional display materials will need special approval and will be permitted as space is available and critical needs for extra display items is determined.

General appearance

Poster presentation can include pictures, graphs, tables, captions, headlines, etc. Presentation materials should be mounted on light-colored poster board – cardboard or heavyweight paper and provide sufficient rigidity – using push-pins. Presenters are advised to bring their own supply of push-pins.

Use of color images can greatly enhance the visual quality of a poster and when mixed with the written portion can increase the attractiveness and appeal of the overall message. Including a written abstract on a poster is optional, since poster abstracts will appear in the conference program.

Lettering

To facilitate easy comprehension and reading of the poster, the following dimensions are suggested: (1) pictures, graphs, charts – at least 20.3cm x 25.4cm, (2) title and author's name – 28mm, (3) text – 8mm, (4) captions for illustrations – 6.4mm, and (5) lettering on graphs/tables – 4.7mm.

Set-up

Set-up time will be during the Friday Social May 1 (5-6:30 p.m.) or Saturday morning May 2 (7-9:50 a.m.). Posters must be taken down between 2-6 p.m. Saturday, May 2.
