The art collection features selections from several focus strengths: Swedish-American art reflecting the college's heritage, an art historical overview greatly advanced by the Paul A. Anderson Chair in the Arts Collection, the Erick O. Schonstedt Inkstand Collection and the Olson-Brandelle North American Indian Art Collection. There also is a component reflecting area artists, including a new acquisition by Ben Wittick (1845-1903), who was raised in Moline and set up his first photography studio just a few miles away from Augustana. Not only is Wittick's photograph now recognized as significant documentation of Southwest Indians, this image pictures General John Logan (1826-1886), an Illinois native who is credited with issuing the order that established the national holiday we observe as Memorial Day.
On view for the year are some selections from the Olson-Brandelle North American Indian Art Collection.
