Internships and Careers Staff

Kevin Carton

My name is Kevin Carton, and I serve as the Arts and Humanities Coordinator in Augustana's Internships and Careers Office.

In addition to being a part of the Internships crew, I act as the administrative advisor for Black Squirrel Film Productions, the Washington D.C. internship program coordinator, a co-coordinator of Australia term, and a board member of YPA (Young Professionals of Augustana). Originally from Moline, Illinois, I graduated from Augustana College in 2010 with majors in Communication Studies, French, and Africana Studies. During my Augustana education, I took part in West Africa term, worked at the circulation desk at the Tredway Library, and participated in various Augie choral ensembles.

In the Internships and Careers Office I assist Arts/Humanities majors. Since graduating, I have taught English in France, worked for John Deere's international logistics team, and now hold my current position on the Augie Campus. Away from Augustana, I act as front man and songwriter for the regional pop-rock group, Minus Six. I also direct two choirs at Christ the King Church in Moline, teach piano lessons, and am heavily involved in the Quad Cities' art and music scene.

Majors I work with include: Africana Studies, Art History, Art, Asian Studies, Classics, Classics-Greek, Classics-Latin, Communication Studies, Education, Pre-education, English, Creative Writing, Writing, French, Graphic Design, German, History, Multimedia Journalism Mass Communication, Music, Philosophy, Political Science, Religion, Scandinavian , Spanish, Spanish for Professional Use, and Theater.

Leslie Scheck

My name is Leslie Scheck and I am the Career Advisor that works with the business and technical majors.

Those include Accounting, Applied Math, Business Administration (Finance, Management, Marketing, MIS), Computer Science, Economics, Engineering Physics, International Business, Mathematics, and Physics.

I am a 2010 graduate of Augustana College where I majored in Psychology and after graduation I completed my Master’s in Counseling. My job is to assist you with your career goals so you don’t have to move back in with your parents (not that there is anything wrong with that).

My passion in life is working with students and forming those strong relationships that will help us work together to find the right career fit for you.  Your career search should not begin your senior year (although I can still help you if that is when you start).  I can help with Resumes, Cover Letters, Interviewing, Networking, Job Fairs, Internship/Job Search, LinkedIn, or all of the above! So come in and meet with me (I promise I am not scary or mean) and let's figure out how I can help you.

Kertesha Riley

Hi, I'm Kertesha. Weird name, huh? It's Kur-tee-sha.

Don't worry, I get it all the time. You've probably seen me roaming around campus at one point. I'm the Floridian that is usually WAY more bundled in the winter than necessary. After finishing my Counseling graduate program, I moved here to begin working in the CEC. While in undergrad I studied Family, Youth, and Community Sciences (very similar to the Social Welfare degree here at Augie), but I was also a pre-med student. Even though I didn't go on to medical school, my interest in the sciences continued and I am now the Health & Sciences Advisor. As that advisor, I oversee majors like Psychology, Sociology, WGS, and CSD but also Biology, Environmental Studies, Neuroscience, etc.

Basically, when you say “Organic Chem is ruining my life,” I totally get it. School can be stressful, and having to think about the future on top of that can make things worse. You don’t have to figure things out alone. Whether you’re dead set on going to med school, or you just want to know what you can do as a Neuroscience and WGS double major, there’s no question that is too small or too dumb to ask. From resumes, cover letters, and interviewing to personal statements and job search, we help you from first year and beyond! Come see me – we’ll figure out a plan together.

Lisa Slater

When you first walk into the doors of the Internships and Careers Office, I, Lisa Slater am the first one to greet you.

My positive, friendly energy makes me easy to communicate with, and a joy to work with. Eager to help students with any task, I readily set up appointments for students to meet with the coordinators, supervise the student workers, create job postings on Augustana's job database, Augie Hub, answer and direct important calls, and much more.

"Lisa'a enthusiasm for student career success makes her the face of the Internships and Careers Office."
