| History of the Augie Cup
Created in 1995, the Augie Cup is a year-long competition among the various Greek and independent organizations on campus. Cup points are awarded to the top eight participants (teams) in each intramural event, which varies from team to individual competition. The male and female champions have their organization name permanently affixed to the Jason Garrett Intramural Championship Cup. Jason was a graduate of Augustana College in 2000 and was best known by the Campus Recreation Staff for his commitment to his fraternity, Gamma Alpha Beta and their intramural pursuits. He was their IM Chair for three years and was a fixture in the PepsiCo Recreation Center during open recreation hours as well as when his teams were participating. The cup was permanently re-named in 2002 in honor of Jason, whose life was cut short in an unfortunate accident soon after his graduation in 2000.
The Jason Garrett Intramural Championship Cup can be seen in the lobby of the PepsiCo Recreation Center. The cup is the centerpiece of a beautiful display cabinet that was donated by Jack and Terry Garrett, parents of Jason Garrett. Dr. Jack Garrett spent 18 years at Augustana College, including the last nine years as chair of the Education Department until his departure in 2003 where he currently serves as Associate Athletic Director for Facilities and Student Services at Indiana University.
