Another English Camp

Hello again!  This is going to be short because I’m waking up early tomorrow to go to the beach, but I had such an amazing day today that I just had to tell you about it!

Today at my school was another English camp, this time for the 6th graders.  I was teaching Sign Language again.  It is amazing how much faster the older kids learn than the younger ones.  They all learned the whole alphabet and got to spell their name in front of the class.  I also tried to teach them the signs for mother, father, baby, house, sister, brother, cat, dog, and beautiful, but it was kind of hard because I don’t know the Thai words for all of those things!

The best part of the English camp was at the very end of the day when all of us volunteers and all the kids met back in their auditorium for a little closing meeting.  The kids were going crazy and were wired after a day with all the Americans!  I know I’ve said it before, but they seriously worship us like celebrities.  We are constantly being touched and hugged and kissed and asked for our autograph and pictures.  They just can’t get enough!  The principal of the school gave us all little gifts before we left.  It was particularly emotional for a few of the volunteers who had their last day of the CCS program today.  The kids then all sang us a song that went, “Goodbye, teacher, goodbye; until we meet again; goodbye, teacher, goodbye” and then they sang the whole thing through in Thai.  It was the sweetest thing and we were all in tears by the end.  I am going to be such a wreck on my last day next week.  phew!

Here are some pics from today:

This is L-ZA, my favorite kid of the day. She is a little fireball with a big heart. She gave us all pictures of herself today. So cute!

The kids always want my autograph and e-mail address! Here I am signing autographs for the boys. They are so funny- they always come up to me and say "You are beautiful" or "I love you!" and then run away. Some things are the same no matter what country you're in...

Thanks again for reading.  I probably won’t update for a few days because I’ll be on the lovely tropical Island of Koh Samet soaking up the sun!!!

Sending all my love,

Katrina

  1. Katrina,
What a wonderful time I am having reading your blog. I can’t wait to hear more about your experiences in person this fall. Enjoy your remaining time in your exotic locale!

  2. I just read about Koh Samet. It says to protect yourself against mosquitos (Dengue fever), don’t leave food out for wandering dogs, and watch out for big tides when swimming. Other than that, it looks like paradise!! So have fun!

  3. The kids are so cute! They are going to cry when you leave….

  4. Hi again!

Very nice pics! And looking forward to receiving new pics from Paradise-island where you are going.

Have fun and get suntan :-)

  5. Treens,
I see that there is a direct link to two of your blogs on the Augie Homepage. Nice!

  6. Katrina, I’ve been following your trip and it seems that you’ve been enriched in many ways. Culturally, educationally, food and shopping wise. We’re all just living life through you and enjoying the journey, take care and have a good experience. Brenda
