1156- Pictures my camera can hold

438- Songs on my mp3 player (hope the people around me on the plane like to sing as much as I do!)

129- Pages in my Singapore travel guide

70- SPF sunscreen

54- pieces of gum so my ears won’t pop

50- pounds my suitcase weighs (I hope)

24- Brand new crayons to color with on the plane

12- Hours until I wake up and drive to Chicago

11- Flight number out of O’Hare AND number of hours I will be on that plane

10- Number of family members at my dinner table last night (mmm pork kabobs!)

7- Kinds of snacks in my carry-on

6- pairs of shoes (I had to pack light, okay?)

4- Target runs in the last 3 days

3- pieces of luggage in the car

2- Nervous parents

1- Day until I leave!

    Kaj and I woke up at 3:00 am to take Katrina to O’Hare. All went well and we arrived and had tickets by 8:30 am. The flight was to board at 10:20. There was nothing to do and no restaurants to sit in, so we reluctantly let Katrina go through the security gates, all three of us in tears. Katrina said “Mom, you raised your daughter well.” Mixed emotions of anxiety and pride as our daughter walked with confidence to her adventure.
    We got back home about 1:30 pm and Jared and I tracked Katrina’s plane on-line. Watching her go over Canada and Alaska, and now she is over the ocean headed to Tokyo. It was comforting to know that they stayed over land for most of the flight. I’m sure she slept through most of that.

    I’m thinking about you! I hope that your flight has gone smoothly. I’m proud of you for only the 6 pairs of shoes…that seems like a big step and I can already tell this trip is going to have a lasting impact on you.

    Good idea about the crayons. Those are absolutely a packing essential.
