The worldwide Augustana College experience

Life in Australia…

The first week of our internships has come and gone.  For me, the interview process was simple.  I introduced myself, had an informal chat, took a tour, and got to work.  Reflecting back on my first week of work, it was interesting to say the least.  I really liked all of my co-workers and my site supervisor.  Sometimes it gets frustrating when he isn’t around and I don’t know what to do, so typically I just take it upon myself to do whatever needs to be done.  I feel like I am getting the hang of the whole public transportation thing, it is nice not having to drive everywhere.  Though my commute is an hour each way, I feel very independent getting to work on my own.  Work is very informal for me- my lunch break is an hour long daily and I am offered to go on frequent breaks throughout the day.  Last week my assignment was to combined demographics and prepare a marketing presentation for a sales manager to use.  This week I am going to be obtaining the history of lane clove, writing narratives for the station on lane cove, and recording them.  I am excited to learn and challenge myself.  Besides the internship, I visited a few new bars and pubs this week/weekend that we a lot of fun.  I also went to coogee beach, Sydney festival, and Hyde park.  I also finally got to try a meat pie, it was awesome!  This upcoming week will be very busy with my internship, bridge climb on Tuesday, Friday is the opera house tour, and Saturday I am going on a wine tasting!
