The worldwide Augustana College experience

When I was 16-17, my father was working in Sekondi as a civil engineer. Since there were no schools for us to attend in the area we only came out to visit on vacations. One of our favorite activities was going to the (completely empty) beach with its huge waves. We would spend the day getting pummeled and thrashed about. They were perfect for body surfing. At the time it seemed pretty normal but today in retrospect, the thought of letting one’s kids swim alone and spend the day unsupervised at a beach (in Africa, no less) may seem a bit……edgy. But at the time, it was fun, and fortunately, I’m still here to tell the tale.
