For the second year in a row, both the men’s and women’s lacrosse teams have clenched births in their conference tournaments. The men’s team was able to hold on for the fourth and final spot despite an overtime loss in Elmhurst. The team will face Aurora, who is undefeated in the conference, for their final regular season contest at Thorson-Lucken Field. Then, just three days later the Vikings travel to Aurora to face the top-seeded Spartans in Midwest Lacrosse Conference tournament play.
On the women’s side, Augustana needs just one more conference victory to solidify its seat at the top. With a win, the women’s lacrosse team would lock itself in to host the Midwest Women’s Lacrosse Conference tournament. The 13-0; 7-0 unit is now one of just three remaining unbeaten Division III teams in the nation.
With the 2014 season marking just the second year in a league for the Augustana programs, it is rather impressive that both sides have been made the conference tournament each season thus far. It has been made clear that Augustana approached the addition of lacrosse in a successful manner that countless institutions have strived to mimic. Currently the Vikings receive little credit in the national rankings and polls against schools on the East Coast but hopefully in the near future our programs will be just as respected!
